About WRSLP
What we do and why

Speech-language pathology is the study of human communication disorders. These disorders can range from simple sounds substitutions to the inability to understand or use language for functional speech. All have the potential to isolate individuals from their social and educational surroundings. We help children with communication disorders increase their speech and language skills, learn about the world around them, utilize their knowledge and skills effectively, and enjoy positive interactions with family, teachers, caregivers and friends.
Evaluation & Treatment
During evaluation, suspected areas of need are investigated using formal and informal assessment tools and techniques. Baseline data is compiled, diagnostic impressions are reported, and therapy recommendations are offered. When therapy is indicated, a research-based therapeutic approach is designed to address the child's immediate and long-term needs. Though many children are seen individually, positive interaction with typically developing peers in group settings often enhance a child's ability to acquire certain skills. A hallmark of our practice is the Program for Establishing and Enhancing Relationships through Social Skills™ (PEERSS™), developed for children with social communication delays and disorders.
Collaboration
We encourage active participation by parents and caregivers, as education and training of adults in the child's life are essential to his or her success in and outside the therapy room. Classroom observation and continuous open communication with teachers and school-based speech-language pathologists are among the many services we offer families seeking our support in the school setting. Finally, we have on-going relationships with pediatric physicians and other clinical professionals in the greater Cleveland area. We frequently consult and collaborate with them on a child's treatment.
